Answers to Your Common Questions About Therapy in Utah County
What types of therapy do you offer?
At Willow Therapy, we offer a comprehensive range of mental health services including individual therapy, couples counseling, family therapy, and child and adolescent therapy. We also specialize in anxiety therapy, depression counseling, trauma-focused therapy, addiction therapy, and many other specialized services to meet your unique needs.
Do you accept insurance for therapy services?
Yes, we accept most major insurance plans. Coverage varies by provider and plan, so we recommend contacting your insurance company to verify your mental health benefits. Our team can also help you verify your insurance coverage and understand your out-of-pocket costs. We're committed to making quality mental health care accessible and affordable.
How do I know if I need therapy?
Many people benefit from therapy when they're experiencing persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, or stress, relationship difficulties, major life transitions, or simply feeling "stuck." If you're wondering whether therapy is right for you, consider scheduling a consultation. According to the American Psychological Association, therapy can help with a wide range of emotional and behavioral concerns. There's no "right" or "wrong" reason to seek support—if you're struggling, we're here to help.
What is the difference between a therapist, psychologist, and psychiatrist?
A therapist or counselor (like our Licensed Clinical Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapists) provides talk therapy and counseling services. A psychologist typically has a doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) and can provide therapy and psychological testing. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (MD) who can prescribe medication and often works alongside therapists. At Willow Therapy, our licensed therapists are trained in evidence-based therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
How long does therapy take?
The duration of therapy varies significantly based on your individual needs, goals, and the issues you're addressing. Some clients find relief in just a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term therapy spanning several months or years. During your initial session, your therapist will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan with realistic goals and timelines. Many clients see meaningful progress within 8-12 sessions.
Do you offer telehealth or online therapy?
Yes! We offer telehealth therapy throughout Utah, allowing you to receive quality mental health care from the comfort of your home. Our secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform makes therapy convenient and accessible, whether you're in Orem, Provo, Pleasant Grove, or anywhere else in Utah County and beyond.
What should I expect in my first therapy session?
Your first session is an opportunity for you and your therapist to get to know each other. Your therapist will ask questions about your background, current concerns, and goals for therapy. This is also your chance to ask questions and determine if the therapist is a good fit for you. To prepare, gather any relevant medical records, make a list of current medications, and think about what you'd like to accomplish through therapy. Most importantly, come with an open mind—therapy is a collaborative process.
Can I choose my own therapist?
Absolutely! We believe the therapeutic relationship is crucial to your success. You can view our team of therapists on our website, where you'll find information about each therapist's specialties, approaches, and backgrounds. If you're not sure who to choose, our intake coordinator can help match you with a therapist who best fits your needs.
Do you offer therapy for children and teenagers?
Yes, we have therapists who specialize in working with children and adolescents. We offer child and adolescent therapy, play therapy, support for ADHD, behavioral issues, and school anxiety. We also provide teen therapy in Orem specifically for adolescents navigating the unique challenges of teenage years.
What conditions do you treat?
Our therapists are trained to help with a wide range of mental health concerns including anxiety disorders, depression, PTSD and trauma, grief and loss, relationship problems, life transitions, stress management, anger management, eating disorders, addiction and substance abuse, and family conflicts. We also offer specialized services for LGBTQ+ individuals, faith transitions, postpartum support, and first responders.
Do you offer couples or marriage counseling?
Yes, we provide comprehensive couples counseling and premarital counseling using evidence-based approaches like the Gottman Method. Whether you're working through conflict, rebuilding trust, improving communication, or preparing for marriage, our couples therapists can help strengthen your relationship.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. What you share in therapy is protected by law and ethical guidelines. There are a few exceptions to confidentiality, such as if there's an imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, or if abuse of a child or vulnerable adult is disclosed. Your therapist will explain these limits during your first session. You can review our complete Privacy Policy for more information.

We have two convenient locations in Pleasant Grove and Orem, and we also offer telehealth appointments throughout Utah. We'll work with you to find a time that fits your schedule.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?
