Out-of-Network Insurance for Therapy

If we are not in-network with your insurance provider, you may still be able to receive partial reimbursement for therapy services. This is known as using your out-of-network insurance benefits, and many of our clients choose this route to access care while lowering their out-of-pocket costs.

What Is Out-of-Network Reimbursement?

When you see a provider who isn’t in-network with your insurance, you can often submit a claim yourself to get reimbursed for a portion of your therapy fees. The amount you receive back depends on your specific plan.

Many PPO and some high-deductible plans include out-of-network benefits, especially for mental health care. While upfront payment is required, you may be surprised by how much your insurance will cover on the back end.

We Provide Superbills for Easy Filing

To help you take advantage of your benefits, we can provide a superbill—a special receipt that includes:

  • Your therapist’s credentials and license number

  • CPT codes and diagnosis codes

  • The dates and costs of your sessions

You simply upload or send this document to your insurance company to request reimbursement. Some providers even allow you to submit through their mobile app.

Will My Insurance Cover This?

  • Every plan is different, but here are questions to ask your insurance company:

    • Do I have out-of-network benefits for mental health or behavioral health?

    • Is therapy with a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) eligible for reimbursement?

    • What percentage is reimbursed per session, and is there a deductible?

    • How do I submit a superbill or claim form?

We’ll support you with documentation and guidance so you can make the most of your coverage.

Why Clients Use Out-of-Network Benefits

Choosing an out-of-network therapist gives you more freedom to:

  • Work with a therapist you truly connect with

  • Avoid long waitlists or coverage gaps

  • Access specialized services not always available in-network

  • Keep therapy confidential without needing a diagnosis on record

We believe that quality care should be driven by your needs—not insurance networks.
