FAQ

Common Questions About Teen Therapy

How do I know if my teen needs therapy?

Consider therapy if your teen shows lasting changes in mood, sleep, appetite, or behavior, is pulling away from family or friends, struggles at school, or has been through something hard. If you are unsure, a conversation with one of our therapists can help you decide whether therapy would be a good fit.

Can my teen talk to a therapist privately?

Teens usually do best when they have some privacy. Your therapist will explain to you and your teen what stays private and what will be shared, such as safety concerns, so everyone knows what to expect.

Will I be included in my teen's therapy?

Yes, in the right ways. Therapists typically meet with parents to talk about concerns and goals, check in as agreed, and may include family sessions when they would help. Your therapist will balance your teen's privacy with parent involvement.

What if my teen refuses to go?

This is common. Our therapists are skilled at building trust with reluctant teens. Starting with a parent consultation, giving your teen a say in choosing a therapist, or keeping the first session low-pressure often helps.

Do you accept insurance for teen therapy?

We accept many major insurance plans for teen therapy, though coverage varies. Schedule your appointment, send us your insurance information, and our team will verify your benefits 24 hours before the session. You can also call us at (801) 410-0542 with questions.

How long does teen therapy typically take?

It depends on your teen and the concern. Some teens work on a specific issue for a focused period, while others benefit from longer support. Your therapist will talk with you about realistic goals and check in on progress along the way.

Can my teen do therapy online?

Yes. Many teens meet with their therapist by secure telehealth from anywhere in Utah, and we also see teens in person at our Orem and Pleasant Grove offices. Your therapist can help you decide what format fits best.

What should I do if I am worried about my teen's safety?

If you believe your teen is in immediate danger, call or text 988, call 911, or go to the nearest emergency room. If you are concerned but it is not an emergency, call us at (801) 410-0542 and let their therapist know right away.
